Mitch McDermott
I started snowboarding on the icy hills of Iowa at the age of 17. After a few annual trips out West, I craved riding real mountains and deep powder all ski season. I moved to Utah only three years ago and quickly made the transition from resort rider to backcountry enthusiast after one winter here. I’m sorta new to the mountaineer scene, but enjoy big days in the mountains regardless of ropes and ice axes. I got into rock climbing to become a better mountaineer, but found an immense love for the sport, which now consumes my time whenever there’s not powder to ride. I’m looking to sharpen my knowledge and skills so I can take on bigger objectives (think Tetons, BC and Alaska). But until then, catch me waking up at absurdly early hours, racing the people of the Salt Lake Valley for first tracks down the best lines in the Wasatch!
