Living her BAÏSTLife.
We are continuing to highlight our BAÏSTLife Crew, made up of several talented athletes who push our brand to the limit and always live their BAÏSTLife. We recently featured Jonnie Merrill, and now we are highlighting Kyra Hunsicker, a snow seeker from White Mountains, New Hampshire. She first hit the slopes when she was just 4 years old and has been loving it ever since. Working in the ski industry has allowed Kyra to spend almost everyday on the slopes, making her ski bum dreams a reality. Want to know more? Read on to get a peek into Kyra's life:
How long have you been skiing/riding? How did you get started skiing/boarding?
I have been skiing since I was 4 years old, so for 21 years now! We moved from Pennsylvania when I was 4 to New Hampshire, and that is when I first learned to ski and then learn to snowboard when I was 8 years old.How many days do you currently spend skiing or boarding each year?
So far this year, I am currently on day 106. Last year it was around 95 days. I work in the ski industry and part of my job requires me to get out on the hill to take photos and videos. It’s a dream!
What do you do in the off-season to stay in shape?
In the off-season I still spend just as much of my time in the mountains. I enjoy getting out as much as a can for a hike or a ride on my mountain bike.
What does your perfect ski day look like? Who’s with you? Where are you?
A perfect ski day for me is an afternoon skin with a group of friends. I love taking advantage of the quiet mountain after it has closed to skin with my ski pals and watch the sunset. Our dogs also love to join us on these type of days, which makes it even better! Once we get to the top it is nice to just sit back and enjoy the view with awesome company.
What is your home mountain and what are your favorite parts about it?
My current home mountain is Sunday River in Maine. I grew up skiing at Attitash in New Hampshire, but now I live and work at Sunday River. I have been skiing at Sunday River for six years now and have just fallen in love with it. I love the diversity Sunday River has to offer from wide open carving trails, to tight trees, to fun bumps, and perfect steeps on powder days. It has it all, and with eight different peaks there is plenty to explore.
What hobbies do you have other than skiing?
Skiing may be one of my favorite hobbies, but there are so many others I enjoy too. When I am not skiing, I love being in the mountains to hike and mountain bike. I am also a certified scuba diver and enjoy spending my time underwater. I also love to get creative, and really enjoy taking photos, making video edits, painting, and drawing. My drawings actually led me into owning my own small business after I decided to use some of my designs to start an apparel company called Wild Bones Wear.
If you use BAÏST products, why do you enjoy using riding with them?
I use the BAÏST Everyday Mitt throughout the winter for skiing. I love these mittens because they keep my hands warm and dry. I also use The Touring BAÏST for when I’m skinning or on warm days. It is hard to find a glove that I can rely on every day, but these gloves never let me down.
What made you decide to try/use/work with BAÏST?
I stubbled upon BAÏST on social media. I started to look at the website and read more about them. After seeing their philosophy and knowing it was started from an east coaster who understands our crazy elements, I knew I had to give them a try. I am now super excited to be working with BAÏST as a brand ambassador because with gloves these awesome. I love telling others about them.
